An evening of sound-based music

 

This past week, on May 24^th, I presented two new electroacoustic works, as well as some earlier pieces, at Struts Gallery & Faucet Media Arts Centre here in Sackville.  There was quite a good turnout, and it was clear that the audience enjoyed the experience.

 

Premiere of new work

My piece In Flight With Shadow’s Stillness was premiered on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Struts Gallery & Faucet Media Arts Centre in Sackville, New Brunswick. The performers were Karin Aurell (flute), Joël Cormier (vibraphone) and Andrew Reed Miller (contrabass). The work was composed specifically for these excellent musicians. The concert was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 16, but was moved to the following day due to expected weather conditions.

Toronto International Electroacoustic Symposium 2015

My paper, Exploring the musical thinking of middle school students composing electroacoustic music: Reflections from a qualitative case study, was among those selected for presentation at the 2015 Toronto International Electroacoustic Symposium. The symposium will be held from Wednesday August 19 to Sunday August 23, 2015.

New publication

A new book published by the Canadian Music Educators’ Association (CMEA/ACME) includes my chapter, “Soundscape Composition: A Canadian Heritage of Digital Music Making For Global Learners”, which explores the nature and educational application of composition with digitally recorded environmental sounds.
